Easy Breezy Sub Plans?

I was out sick yesterday and although not quite feeling up to par today, I'm just going to suffer through it.  The sub plans I left were fairly easy, or so I thought, until I returned.  Maybe my directions and examples left weren't clear enough because I was in a hurry to get them done and go home and get back to bed.  Or maybe perhaps I am just too picky and want things done my way.  Regardless...does anyone have any easy one day projects that a sub can easily do regardless of what they know about art???  Help!

  1. I do a couple of different things for subs. If I know the sub in advance, I can better plan lessons that I know they can handle. I have an "emergency art teacher" sub folder with about 5 lesson plans for each grade in there that use mostly paper and materials the kids know how to find. This last year, I purchased some of the Crayola Dream-Makers sets for a few grades to help link back my art plans to core content. I have found the lessons in there are AWESOME to pull for subs. Each card comes with the lesson and pics for discussion on the front, then a how to and examples on the back.

  2. Amy I know what you mean about coming back after an absence and the project just didn't turn out like you imagined.
I generally leave drawing lessons like -
Your family just won the lottery! Design the most awesome, amazing house to build for all of you to live in. OR Can you create an outrageous invention like Phineas and Ferb? Would you build a rocket that goes under water? or would you help your sister learn to drive in a car you design especially for her?---
I have a list of about 10 that I pick from for days I'm gone. It helps if the sub can brainstorm ideas with the class at the beginning too.
    Good luck!

  3. I have a sub folder filled with "recipe" drawings. A list of items that would be found at the beach, the park, in the city etc. The students then need to draw a cohesive picture including the items on the list. I would rather have a sub complete a totally different lesson than continuing on with the current project (too many things can go wrong and then I have to grade it!)
The "canned" lesson also means I don't need to go in to get something together when I am sick (I need to be really sick to not work).
